Historic Downtown Charleston Wedding

The Hindu ceremony of Heather and Ajay took place at Hibernian Hall in downtown Charleston. This setting is an excellent space for wedding ceremonies of all kinds and is wonderful to work in for wedding photographers because the large windows provide plenty of natural light. I photographed the vivid colors that are inherent in a Hindu ceremony with a special film designed for such vibrant colors. This is an example of photojournalistic wedding photography.

Folly Beach Wedding

The Folly Beach wedding of Stacie and Josh was a destination wedding that focused on the natural beauty of the location. The ceremony took place on Folly Beach yet the bride and groom chose to take their wedding portraits in historic downtown Charleston. This couple's wedding photography album included pictures of the details and setting as well as the special moments that took place during their day. Stacie chose a local florist and caterer for their wedding reception. Because of the bright summer light I was able to work without using a flash, which I prefer to do. I used 35mm color and black and white film using all available light which is best for capturing the true ambiance of a location. This is an example of photojournalistic wedding photography.

Low Country Plantation Wedding

This wedding of Rebbeca and Josh took place at Old Santee Canal Park, a favorite location for plantation weddings. I documented the essence of their fall wedding by capturing the burnt reds and oranges the bride chose for her flowers and decor. She wanted her bridal portraits to be taken outside on the park's plantation grounds. I have found through experience that bridal portraits are best when taken in a larger outdoor setting as opposed to a studio, this is especially best for low country brides. I shot their wedding using both digital photography and film. For some of the family portraits, and portraits of the bride and groom, I chose to use a medium format which allows for the photography to be printed larger than a traditional 35mm. This gallery includes examples of documentary wedding photography. This is also an example of photojournalistic wedding photography.

I enjoy portraiture of all kinds. This selection includes children, maternity, family, engagement and individual portraits with my documentary approach. By combining my experience with what the sitter wants creates unique portraits. I usually do the shoot at a location of the client's choice; be it at the beach or park, or even within your own home. Ambient lighting for portraits in natural settings is my preference. I specialize in event photography as well; be it the birth of your child or his first birthday party.

The commercial photography gallery is divided between fashion and culinary photos. I also do architectural, landscape and jewlery shoots. I can work with you to shoot product detail shots or design an ad campain.

Culinary Photography Gallery

Being a self-proclaimed epicurian, I've always really enjoyed the culinary photography part of my commercial work. I like getting in and photographing details of things and the kitchen of a busy chef is a great place to do this. I think fresh foods are always particularly photogenic, while I love working with and designing a setting as well.

Fashion Photography Gallery

The first series of fashion photography is the spring and summer line for a clothing company. We worked primarily in the studio with the model but also did a few editorial shots outside of the studio.

The second series of fashion photos is for a very clean and simple all-white clothing line that preferred to have their photographs taken without a model, so this provided a bit of a challenge. For this assignment I took the clothes out into nature and photographed them there as if they had grown along with the trees and the grasses.

This fine art gallery features a wide selection from the various series and exhibitions that I worked on over the years. Some of the work is created using alternative photographic methods such as polaroid lifts and prints from hand made photographic papers. Other works in the collection come from travel and nature photography and artistic portraits.
